The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) warned patients and doctors that Viagra has been prescribed for erectile dysfunction in some cases.
In a letter to doctors and pharmacists, the agency warned the public that the use of Viagra has been prescribed to male patients, including to their partners, because of the drug's side effects, including the possibility of cardiovascular problems.
“FDA is aware that the use of Viagra for ED in some men has been linked to erectile dysfunction in some cases,” the agency said in its letter to doctors and pharmacists. “The FDA is aware of the association between the use of Viagra and erectile dysfunction in some men, but not with these cases.”
In a statement, the agency said: “This is in accordance with current safety protocols for the use of sildenafil citrate in men and the use of sildenafil citrate in men who are at greater risk for developing ED, and is therefore not an appropriate drug for treatment of erectile dysfunction.”
The FDA says the use of Viagra has been linked to heart problems in men and men who take nitrates for chest pain. Viagra was the first prescription drug to treat chest pain and is not approved for use in men with diabetes.
The drug also is approved for use in patients with a low blood pressure who have taken certain medicines to treat angina, such as nitroglycerin, to relax the walls of the blood vessels to prevent further narrowing.
It has also been approved for use in the treatment of pulmonary arterial hypertension, and in some cases, it has been used in cases of severe liver failure and in a type of cancer.
The agency says the use of Viagra in patients with ED, or any other condition that can cause ED, can be a red flag of the drug's potential to cause cardiovascular problems.
“The FDA has a responsibility to make sure that the use of drugs like Viagra is safe and appropriate, and to ensure the safety and efficacy of the drugs in their treatment of ED,” the agency said in its letter to doctors and pharmacists. “If patients experience serious side effects, they should seek immediate medical attention.”

The FDA also recently warned the public about its potential to cause heart problems in patients with coronary artery disease. A recent study from the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute in Bethesda, Maryland, found that the use of Viagra in patients with coronary artery disease had an increased risk of heart attack, stroke, and sudden death. The drug was not approved for use in patients with angina pectoris, and the FDA has not approved its use in patients with coronary artery disease.
The cheapest erectile dysfunction (ED) pills are generic Viagra, called.
The term "generic" refers to the active ingredient of a medicine or drug rather than to the advertised brand name under which the medicine is sold. It is a term referring to any drug marketed under its chemical name without advertising.
Pfizer made the originaltablet that is often referred to as the “blue pill”.The patent expired in 2013 which then allowed other pharmaceutical manufactures to make a generic version under the name of the active ingredient called Sildenafil. They are exactly the same medically and perform in the same way with the same side-effects.
As with most branded products, Viagra is sold at a higher price, therefore the generic tablets sold asare much cheaper.
Medically there is no difference between a generic medicine and the branded medicine, as they both have the same active ingredients to make them perform in the same way. They only differ in the “bulking” agents used to fill the tablet as the amount of active ingredient required, in this case Sildenafil, is very small. This makes the tablets bigger and easier to handle.
The main difference between generic andbranded named prescription medicines is cost with generics being much cheaper
Every pharmacy can choose what price they sell at, as there are no fixed prices. It will depend on what price the pharmacy can buy the drug from the wholesaler and the cost of their own overheads. They can they decide what mark-up they require and some pharmacies choose to sell some products at higher prices.

All pharmacies using a UK General Medical Council, to prescribe their medicines will also be registered with the UK government Agency the Care Quality Commission (CQC).
Those online pharmacies who are not registered with the CQC either use pharmacist prescribers or foreign doctors.
You will then know and have the confidence that all the brands being offered are genuine and will work in the same way. All the pharmaceutical companies are inspected by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) to ensure they manufacturer the drugs to the same quality standard. This means that the key ingredient that is referred to as the “active” ingredient is exactly the same in all brands.
The other inactive ingredients that make up the bulk of the tablet are called “excipients” and can vary.
For those people who are allergic to or have an intolerance to lactose, then the is ideal for you as it is lactose free. You can check the additional excipients on the patient information leaflet supplied with your tablets.
Although medically all the generic tablets are identical, they may look different as they can vary in colour, shape and size due to the varying excipients.
The patent for, owned by Pfizer, expired in July 2013, which then allowed other pharmaceutical companies to produce generic. There are a number of companies now manufacturing which include Accord, Ajanta, Dr Reddy’s, Mylan, Teva, Torrent and Zentiva. Even Pfizer make a that they sell cheaper than Viagra although generally more expensive than the equivalent generic brands.

A group of Brits have launched an anti-impotence drug called "Viagra" in the UK.
The product, called 'Sildenafil Citrate' or 'Viagra for men', will be sold in pharmacies, retail and online.
The product is a popular treatment for erectile dysfunction, and is often used by men to increase a man’s performance in bed.
Sildenafil is the active ingredient in the popular treatment, which has been shown to treat impotence.
Sildenafil was initially launched in Britain in the UK in 2002.
But in recent years it has become increasingly common in other countries for men to take part in a study which looked at the impact on their sexual performance of taking a placebo.
In the trial, men who took sildenafil and placebo showed a statistically significant increase in the number of satisfying sexual experiences from 1.2 per cent of the first year on to 4.6 per cent over those who took sildenafil.
Sildenafil was found to be effective in raising the number of satisfying sexual experiences and making intercourse more enjoyable.
In the trial, more than 90 per cent of men who took sildenafil reported a return to normal sex life.
Sildenafil also showed improvements in erectile function, which was reported to increase the number of satisfying sexual experiences by 5.3 per cent from 3.5 per cent.
The results show that men who take sildenafil for more than a year can experience improved sexual performance.
Dr Sarah Thompson, from the Royal Free Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, said: “The results of the trial suggest that men who take sildenafil can return to normal sex lives after a year of taking the medicine, with a higher number of satisfying sexual experiences and improved sexual performance.
“These results are encouraging and show that erectile dysfunction drugs such as Viagra may be an effective treatment option for many men who take it.
“The Royal Free Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and other organisations have supported the use of Viagra by millions of men.
“In the UK, around 1 in 10 men aged between 40 and 55 suffer from erectile dysfunction.”
A man suffering from erectile dysfunctionHe took a placebo pill and went on to take sildenafil for around five years.
He has since recovered, with the medication starting to work better again and the number of satisfying sexual experiences rose again.
A man suffering from erectile dysfunction is more likely to experience a return to normal sex life.
He is also at risk of developing a form of diabetes, which can cause blood sugar levels to rise.
Dr Sarah Thompson, a specialist in sexual medicine, said: “The benefits of taking Viagra can outweigh the risks, especially when taken as early as 6 months after taking it.
“The study was designed to examine the effects of the drug on sexual performance, and not specifically on erectile function, and to examine how this impacted men’s quality of life.”
A man suffering from erectile dysfunction is more likely to experience a return to normal sex life after taking sildenafil, new research showsThe research, published in theBritish Medical Journalin July, found that men who took sildenafil for more than a year had an increase in the number of satisfying sexual experiences.
The men who took the drug had higher rates of return to normal sex lives.
In the study, more than 90 per cent of men who took sildenafil reported a return to normal sex life.
It also improved the ability to have an orgasm.
Dr Sarah Thompson, a specialist in sexual medicine, said: “Sexual function is a complex and complex process. It’s important for men to understand that sexual dysfunction can be an early sign of a medical condition and to make sure that treatments like Viagra and sildenafil are appropriate for that condition.
